New video shows bus driver accused of DWI

Video from Leander ISD shows a school bus driver on her route. However, on this day last month, investigators believe Kathy Legrand, 61, hit a mailbox and tree limbs and drove up to 30 students while intoxicated.

The Leander Independent School District bus driver may have been on up to nine medications, according to Travis County deputies. An arrest warrant says Legrand admitted she took pain killers and anti-depressants and mixed them with alcohol the night before she was arrested.

Much of the video is blurred with no audio when the kids are on the bus, to protect their identities. However, Legrand does talk after the children are off of the school bus.

“My bus is kind of all out of kilter,” said Legrand on her bus radio.

Later, she speaks to an official when stopped.

“Something is going big-time wrong,” she said.

It also appears Legrand leaves the bus for more than a couple of minutes while the kids are onboard.

“It’s half anger, half fear, half sad. It’s like a mixture of emotions, right? Because you picture your kids on that bus, luckily they weren’t,” said Joe Horsey, a parent of a student in first grade and another in kindergarten.

Horsey says his children usually take the bus, but didn’t on that day. He believes the district handled the situation well after the incident.

The district reviewed the video and fired Legrand.

Deputies say Legand claimed to have had six years of experience as a bus driver. She is charged with DWI, a charge elevated to a felony due to children being on board. A misdemeanor charge was also added for the damage done to the mailbox, trees, and other things which were destroyed along the roadway. VIDEO

Prostitutes fight due to a street corner! VIDEO

Competition on the streets is really tough.

Two girlfriends night (and it appears on) defeated the middle of the street in Bangkok. The reason for the fight is probably the lack of agreement about where would any of them do, or who will occupy desirable street corner.
Passers-by quickly gathered in order to observe what is happening.Cheered with a loud voice, and incited them to one another. No one had tried to split up, obviously the viewers were very entertaining, only one male shoved out he would not disrupt the booth.
The fight was pretty intense. See for yourself. VIDEO

10 Incredibly Talented Celebrities Who Ruined Their Careers

The world finds talent and beauty irresistible. Those who possess these qualities are considered special. They seem to have everything that one could ever want in life. There’s often one area where they fall short, though in sanity and self-discipline. The stars on this list are world famous. But for one reason or another, they let it all slip through their fingers.

1. Whitney Houston

Whitney Houston

Beautiful actress and talented singer Whitney Houston married nearly retired R&B star Bobby Brown in 1992, at the height of her career. With her drug dependency problems, it may not have been a good move being together with someone with substance abuse issues of his own. Through their tumultuous marriage, Whitney Houston’s drug abuse only became worse. Brown and Huston divorced in 2007, Huston was about to record a new album and her life seemed to be going well. Two years later she appeared on Oprah Winfrey’s show and gave an interview that was recognized as one of the most expected and outspoken. Huston admitted that her drug addiction became all-absorbing after the thundering success of The Bodyguard in 1992.
Her world tour of 2010, entitled the Nothing but Love World Tour, didn’t salvage her career, though. Her fans were disappointed at the performance and the quality of her voice and she received numerous negative responses from critics. While she did go through rehab, she never overcame her habit entirely. In 2012, under the simultaneous influence of cocaine, marijuana and other drugs, she drowned in her bathtub. Anyway, Whitney Huston is one of the world’s best-selling singers with more than 200 million records sold over the years.

2. Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson was the biggest name in popular music worldwide for years. For whatever reason, though, the star adopted a stranger and stranger lifestyle over time. With multiple cosmetic surgeries, a love of spending time with children, prescription drug abuse, and an out-of-control shopping habit, the star’s life gradually came apart. He was married two times and both his marriages were unhappy and short-lived.
In 2003 his reputation and name was tarnished, after the releasing of a documentary film Living with Michael Jackson. The film revealed the most scandalous details of his life including sleeping arrangements with a young boy. After the criminal investigation Jackson was arrested. During numerous court cases Jackson lost his fortune and was unable to cover even the most basic charges. The star burned through most of his money and his goodwill with his fans by the time he passed away in 2009.

3. Britney Spears

Britney Spears

Britney Spears is one of those rare talented people who are able to start out as a child star and then make the transformation to stardom as an adult. Britney started her career at the age of 11, when she was picked for The New Mickey Mouse Club with other would be stars such as Justin Timberlake and Christina Aguilera. After the show she focused on her solo career and released the first single in 1998. After becoming a worldwide sensation in pop music, she somehow let her life unwind.
In 2004 her reputation and name was ruined due to an odd 2-day marriage with Jason Alexander and the following scandalous love affair with backup dancer. Later that year she married him and gave birth to their first son. But their marriage didn’t last long and after the birth of their second son, they began divorce proceedings. Britney was acknowledged to be mentally ill and her ex-husband received full custody over their children. Over several instances, she was photographed by paparazzi drunk in public. Britney didn’t let her career completely crumble, though. She caught herself in time. Today, she has made an excellent comeback.

4. Axl Rose

Axl Rose
Photo: Ed Vill
From the late 80s to the early 90s, Axl Rose’s searing vocals took the heavy metal group Guns ‘n’ Roses to stratospheric heights. The group was so successful, it managed to turn the tide in popular music away from pop and dance music at the time, and towards rock. As rock musicians tend to do, Axl’s unstable behavior over the years led the band to completely squander its popularity.
The band’s success was stunning and comparatively short-term. The decline began in late 1990s, when the band actually broke up with the leaving of the majority of musicians. Axl appeared in 2004 with a new band and a tour but neither his tour nor a new album won the former recognition of the public. His personal life was unsteady as well. Rose was married to Erin Everly, and he was engaged to a supermodel, but neither of these relationships lasted for more than a year.

5. Tiger Woods

Tiger Woods
Photo: U.S. Army
Until November 2009, as far as the whole world was concerned, Tiger Woods was the perfect role model. He was the most talented golf player in the world, was clean cut and a family man. The star’s life came apart in a spectacular fashion, though, when tabloid newspapers in 2009 released all kinds of evidence of his repeated extramarital affairs.
With his reputation destroyed, many of his biggest commercial sponsors withdrew their support. His wife divorced him, too and achieved full custody of their children. He decided to withdraw temporarily from golf and enter therapy. He has since taken significant steps towards making a comeback. In 2013 Woods made a statement that he’s dating professional alpine ski racer Lindcey Vonn. They’ve been close friends for a long time but over the last few months their relationship has developed into something bigger.

6. Mel Gibson

Fans always found Mel Gibson irresistible. His insanely fun Mad Max movies made him one of the most loved stars of his time. When he directed Braveheart and won an Oscar for it, he seemed to make an indelible mark on the world of film. Behind his professional front, though, Mel Gibson always had a huge drinking problem. Gibson admitted that he started drinking when he was a teenager. Ever since 1996, he has been repeatedly involved in incidents of drunken driving, domestic violence and hate speech. He divorced his first wife after 26 years of marriage. They welcomed one daughter and six sons. But after splitting with Russian pianist Oksana Grigorieva, his life and career really came apart.
Taking repeated hits to his reputation, Gibson has professionally been on the wane. He has been sentences to 16 hours of community service, probation period and received numerous fines. Consequently his colleagues turned their back on him and he lost the contract with William Morris Endeavor Entertainment.

7. Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen was never serious about his acting. He chose a life of alcoholism, partying and occasional acting, instead. He got one thing out of his long-term lifestyle as a party animal — a solid reputation as a selfish, air-headed person no deeper than a puddle. He could parlay this persona into a great role in the hit sitcom Two-and-a-Half Men, where he practically played himself. Unfortunately, Charlie Sheen’s unpredictable behavior got him into trouble with the creator of his show, and he found himself fired.
Following his dismissal, Sheen suffered a meltdown in which he went on YouTube, posting messages about how he was a warlock with tiger blood and a rock star from Mars. His career never recovered. He was married three times, but the father of five children has never been a good father and husband.

8. Lindsay Lohan

Lindsay Lohan started her professional life as a gifted actress and then as a singer. Unfortunately, as it happens with many young stars, Lohan wasn’t able to take the pressure of stardom. Somewhere along the way, she began to go off the rails with terrible drug and alcohol problems. She’s been under arrest many times and has been fired from movies for being undependable. Her career has been a promising career that’s been sadly wasted. All in all, she has undergone 250 days of rehab since 2007, she has faced 20 court cases before four judges and she has performed about 70 days of community service.

9. Macaulay Culkin

Once Macaulay Culkin left his Home Alone and The Good Son years behind, his career fizzled out. He didn’t seem to try to bring it back, either. He married at 17, took to drugs and only acted occasionally. He was influenced a lot by the legal issues of his parents who were never married. When their relationship collapsed, however, they started fighting over the custody of their children and Culkin’s fortune.
At the age of 16 a young star made a statement that he wouldn’t accept any roles until his parents settle the conflict. That was a crucial moment in his career as he hasn’t acted in any successful film since that time. His personal life wasn’t successful either. His first marriage collapsed in two years and his long-lasting relationship with Mila Kunis came to nothing. While Culkin is incredibly talented, he simply didn’t appear to have the self-control that one needs to make something of oneself.

10. Kurt Cobain

Kurt Cobain
Photo: nico7martin
Kurt Cobain wrote Smells like the Team Spirit for Nirvana’s 1991 album Nevermind. The song was hailed as sheer genius and he attained worldwide stardom. He wasn’t built to handle that kind of success, though. His heroin use and his mental troubles got the better of him one day, and he died from an overdose at age 27.

The lesson to learn from these stories is obvious: you may succeed in life without talent, but not without discipline and sanity. Sometimes fame and fortune are too hard to bear and that’s the reason why many talented and prospective artists lose their way. Alcohol, drugs, parties and out-of-control expenses are all the appanages of wealth and success and many people just cannot refuse it. But self-discipline and consciousness can really help to overcome all the temptations.

Fake photos of Kim Kardashian?

The so-called "untouched" pics of Kim Kardashian's ass circulating online are not real ... this according to the magazine that published the real deal.

The pics that are circulating show what everyone expects to see ... dimplings, rolls, a wider waist and stretch marks. The pic on the left is almost a cartoon version of reality. The pic on the right is a little better, just showing uneven cheeks.

A rep for Paper Magazine tells TMZ none of the photos are authentic. The Chief Creative Officer for the mag said on TMZ Live ... none of the Photoshopping they did was drastic.

The fakes going around are all over the place ... some make her ass look bigger, others make it look smaller.

Size really matters.

Chloe looking ugly!!!

This is a weird little selfie that Khloe Kardashian took, what with the way you can only see part of her face and none of her fashions, but you know what? We don't need to see anything more to know that this look is completely and totally unacceptable.

Look at them lips, you guys. Really just study them for a moment. Those Kardashians and their dang expandable lips, right? Their lips just have that strange ability, I guess, to get bigger and bigger, and then a little bit bigger than that. It's a strange phenomenon, but don't let that overtake your experience of this selfie. No, also be sure to check out the grill that lies past the lips. After that, we won't make you look any further.

It's just ... how hard is it to not look completely ridiculous? Is that really so difficult? Just will your lips to maintain a normal human size and don't stick a bunch of metal or gold or whatever in your mouth. That's all Khloe would have had to do here to look lovely instead of looking like whatever this is.

Drunk Fan Vomits On-Stage, ugly video

Dierks Bentley sings about being drunk on a plane, but now the country superstar is also an expert on vomiting on a stage ... thanks to a drunk fan -- and the footage is disgustingly awesome!!

Dierks was performing at the Hershey Giant Center in Pennsylvania last night and brought two fans on stage to sing along to "Drunk On a Plane."

The truly gnarly part of this video is that ... we've all been right where this chick was -- just not in front of thousands of people.  A rep for Dierks tells us he felt really bad for the fan.

We're pretty sure she did NOT get invited backstage after this. video

Why China needs the U.S?

Back in 2007, when I was participating at a conference on U.S.-China relations, the late U.S. diplomat Richard Holbrooke repeatedly came back to the importance of not writing the United States off, while warning against getting overexcited about the new emerging China imperium.

"The U.S.," he said, "is not going away any time soon."
Holbrooke's views are evidently shared by the current leadership of China.
While many commentators excitedly jabber about the end of the U.S. era and comment on how President Barack Obama -- diminished by his recent electoral drubbing at home -- is regarded as weak and irrelevant in Beijing, the people that matter, namely the Chinese leadership, have proved shrewd enough not to buy into this sort of talk. They see through the transient nature of presidents and their power, and as a strategic political and economic partner, understand that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton was right: For them, the United States is the one indispensable nation.
Skepticism over U.S.-China deal
China, Japan in "renormalization" phase
Investors want in on China's tech scene
The proof of this is the comprehensive agreements issued this year during the APEC meeting in Beijing.
Forget all the theater of Russian President Vladimir Putin scowling at Obama minutes before trying to engulf the Chinese President's glamorous wife in a shawl, or the icy image of Chinese President Xi Jinping shaking Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's hand. Because the reality is that -- despite the narrative we might like to impose on all this of a world beating its tracks to Beijing's door -- for policymakers in Beijing, deals like the one just made with the United States on slashing carbon emissions, or the ones on security and economic cooperation, are the one currency truly worth having.
But the most misleading aspect of U.S.-China relations is that while in public they are frequently conducted in snarling rhetoric, underneath both sides probably have more mutual links and increasing common ground than ever before.
And while separating the sound and fury from the truth is tough, on the fight against terrorism, the need to find sustainable economic growth, preserving a benign, stable international environment, and increasing predictability in the global financial governance system, China and the United States often pretend they are much further apart than they actually are.
Their main business now is tactical -- trying to search out spaces for strategic advantage. With its proposed Asian Free Trade Zone, along with building diverse energy supply links through Russia and central Asia, China is engaged in staking out discrete spaces where it can move without being hedged in. It knows that long arguments with neighbors like Japan peg it down and reduce its space to act. Having as many friends as possible is Xi's diplomatic priority, after years of brittle tensions with so many countries around China's land and maritime borders.
There is a simple reason for this. China is entering a period of tough economic transition. The Third and Fourth Plenum meetings of the Chinese Communist Party made this clear. Many things need to be done, from raising consumption to addressing water supply issues and the dangerous state of the air quality in the country. Too many rows with the world outside distract from the real business of dealing with these internal matters.
And in all these areas, whatever the distrust and misunderstandings held by the world's second biggest economy toward the largest, the gains from continuing to be constructive and mostly friendly, at least on the surface, far outweigh the benefits of acting tough.
Of course, all this might change one day, when China really feels it has to demand more international strategic space and sees the United States as an impediment to that. But APEC this year has underscored that that day is a long time in the future.

The race is on for flying car

Not since the Wright brothers flew the first powered aircraft near Kitty Hawk in 1903 has the competition been so intense. The technology that can give us the world's first affordable and easily pilotable flying car is almost here.
Several start-ups are already moving their prototypes forward and the race is on.
But just like the early days of flight, there are several schools of thought about which model will be the most efficient, workable and worthy of being the template for the future.
No need for a runway
"For me, it has to be vertical take-off and landing," said Daniel Lubrich, the managing director of Krossblade Aerospace Systems. "I think this idea of an aircraft you can drive on the street but you still have to find an airport for is nice, but it doesn't really solve the problem."
His Arizona-based team has developed a concept for a hybrid five-seat transformer airplane called a SkyCruiser.
Looking a bit like the lovechild of a futuristic light plane and the flying vehicle known as "The Bat" from the movie "The Dark Knight Rises", the SkyCruiser sports foldable wings and four foldable rotors with electric motors powered by a Wankel rotary engine generator.
The quadcopter concept would allow the flying car to take off vertically from a traffic jam, for instance, without the need for a runway.
First flying car to go on sale in 2015
Driverless cars could let you sleep
Once airborne, it would switch to horizontal flight, using two 150 bhp electric motors in the tail to power it through the air at more than 300 mph. The designers claim it could fly from Los Angeles to San Francisco in little more than an hour -- faster than any other drivable aircraft currently in development.
On the ground, its 31-foot (9.5 meter) wingspan can be stowed, its four rotors retracted and electric motors in the wheels can drive the vehicle along the road at 75 mph (112 kph). However, with a total length of 8.4 meters (27.5 feet), don't expect to park it on any city block with ease.
Lubrich says he envisages the hybrid could fly almost three times faster than equivalent projects; a necessary advantage in his native Germany, where cars can already travel as fast as 85 mph on the country's autobahns, with some stretches even free of any speed limit.
"I think you need to fly significantly faster than that to really have an advantage," he told CNN. "If you only fly at 110 mph, you're only going a little bit faster, you have to pay a lot more money in fuel and you still have to land at an airport.
"A flying car really needs to be optimized for flight -- if you have to drive a little bit it should only be a mile or two."
Currently its prototype, a model called the SkyProwler, has worked according to plan and the company says it's only a matter of time before it can be scaled up into five-seat, fully operational flying car.

Rape allegations haunt Bill Cosby

Nasty allegations have been haunting one of America's most iconic comedians with a reputation for moral wholesomeness. For nine years, Bill Cosby has been accused of sexual assault by women who say they were the victims.
Cosby has repeatedly said that the allegations are untrue. And he has never been prosecuted.
But since 2005, a handful of women have made the claim. This year, those accusations resurfaced, and on Monday, a seemingly harmless post to Cosby's confirmed Twitter account turned them into a social media storm.
Cosby's social media stunt backfires
In its wake, one of his accusers, Barbara Bowman, turned to the public once more with an article in the Washington Post. She also spoke to CNN's Don Lemon.
Bill Cosby: Evolution of an icon
Bowman claims she was drugged then raped, though she said she never saw drugs.
"I woke up out of a very confused state not in my clothes." She said she knew her body had been touched without her permission. This occurred several times in the course of their contact, she said.
She said to CNN that Cosby told her she had been drunk.
Bowman was 17 back then in 1985, an aspiring actress, and was in a mentoring relationship with Cosby, she said.
She spent time in his home, which included dinners with the star.
Despite what she said was happening to her, she kept coming back. And Cosby and her agent financed her apartment in addition to supporting her acting ambitions, she said.
She was afraid to talk to her agent about her concerns, and she felt Cosby's influence over her was too powerful.
"I was terrified of him," she said.
"As a teenager, I tried to convince myself I had imagined it. I even tried to rationalize it: Bill Cosby was going to make me a star and this was part of the deal," she wrote in her Washington Post article.
In a Friday morning interview on CNN's "New Day," Bowman said she went to a lawyer in 1989 to discuss legal action against Cosby but "he laughed me right out of the office."
After that, Bowman said, she "just gave up" and moved on with her life. When another woman took legal action against Cosby years later, Bowman decided to lend her support, she said.
"I believe her because it happened to me," she said Friday.
CNN has reached out to Cosby's representative for comment on this story, but has yet to hear back.
The Tweet
On Monday, the comedian -- or whomever was in charge of his social media -- put out a challenge with a jovial picture of Cosby in a cap: "Go ahead. Meme me! #cosbymeme."
The Internet immediately reacted, but probably not in the way Cosby expected.
"Claire, have you seen my ... nevermind, found my raping hat!" tweeted Trill Withers over the cap picture.

The big lesson from comet landing

Martin Barstow(CNN) -- Patience, it is said, is a virtue. If that's the case, then the scientists involved in the European Space Agency's Rosetta mission have been very virtuous indeed.
Martin Barstow
After all, the men and women involved in the project have waited most of their scientific careers -- through years of planning and construction, not to mention the 10-year journey of the Rosetta spacecraft -- to see the Philae lander land on Comet 67P Churyumov Gerasimenko. And now they can enjoy the fruits of this amazing adventure, which has landed (albeit a little bumpily) and has been returning data.
Rosetta was an enormously ambitious and technically risky project. However, overall, it has been a great success so far, with a number of "firsts" for ESA that have not been achieved by any other space agency -- it has chased a comet across the solar system, rendezvoused and then achieved orbit.
Landing a probe on the surface like this has been a huge challenge: working in a low gravity environment with poor knowledge of the nature of the comet surface. It was unclear even if it would it be a solid body or a loose collection of material.
And there are plenty more challenges ahead. For a start, although data has been collected from the orbiter since August, and the first images are now being received from the lander, it will take many more months and possibly years for Rosetta to realize its full scientific legacy.
However, even as the initial excitement over the technical success fades, we will gradually begin to understand the building blocks of the solar system.

Fifa corruption report Judge 'surprised' at Garcia criticism

Ethics judge Hans-Joachim Eckert says he is "surprised" by public criticism from Fifa colleague Michael Garcia over his report into the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.
Eckert's report into allegations of corruption was published on Thursday.
A few hours later, Garcia, who spent two years investigating the claims of wrongdoing, publicly criticised it.
Garcia revealed to the BBC that he did not see Eckert's final report before it was released to the media.
Eckert's 42-page document cleared Russia and Qatar of corruption after they were chosen to host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups respectively, but it criticised England of flouting bid rules.

"A lot of my report was word for word from the Garcia report."
But less than four hours after its publication, Garcia, an American lawyer, issued a statement claiming it was "erroneous".
Just what Garcia thinks is wrong in Eckert's report is not yet clear, but he said he intended to appeal to Fifa.
Eckert, chairman of the adjudicatory chamber of Fifa's independent ethics committee, responded: "I'm surprised, not shocked. I'm a long time in the job here. I don't think anything surprises me."

Turkey President Erdogan's palace costs to soar!

A controversial 1,000-room palace built for Turkey's president will cost even more than the original £385m ($615m) price tag, the BBC has been told.
Officials said the additional costs are due to a new 250-room private residence for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and thousands of imported Italian trees.
The inflated bill is set to add several million pounds to initial estimates.
Known as Ak Saray (White Palace), the new building is perched on a hilltop near the capital Ankara.
Constructed on more than 150,000 sq m (1.6 million sq ft) of land, it was opened by Mr Erdogan on 30 August after he became president.
Bigger than either the White House or the Kremlin, it had already cost more than twice the original estimates of treasury officials.
Extravagant style Speaking to the BBC, the Ankara Architecture Chamber said the latest price hike was in part due to thousands of trees which have been imported from Italy to be planted in the palace grounds.
The price of the trees was not included in the original bill, and each tree costs between £2,400 ($3,750) and £6,400 ($10,000), the chamber said.

Through teenagers' eyes

Their homes are dusty refugee tents - and life is hard. Using cameras on smartphones - and with the support of Save the Children and professional photographer Michael Christopher Brown - Syrian teenagers have created unique portraits of conditions inside the Zaatari camp in neighbouring Jordan.
Over the course of a week, the girls and boys aged 14 to 18 were taught photographic techniques, and then asked to capture images of their daily reality. The iPhone files were then converted into distinctive square Instagram images.

Teenager who orchestrated 'revenge rape' attack in jail

A woman who orchestrated a "revenge rape" on a teenager she told "snitches get stitches" has been jailed.
Aliyah Weekes, 19, instigated a sex attack carried out by her brother in an alleyway on the 15-year-old victim, whom she accused of spreading rumours.
She was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in a young offenders institute for her role in what the Old Bailey judge called a "truly wicked" crime.
Her brother Lacquan Weekes, 18, was detained for five years for rape.
'This was no game' Aliyah Weekes, of Harlesden, north-west London, and a 16-year-old girl were convicted of aiding and abetting the attack, which happened on 29 April.
The youngest defendant was given an 18-month youth rehabilitation order.
Sentencing the three, Judge Jeremy Donne said: "This was no game. This was no childish folly.
"This was a wicked crime and one that, Aliyah Weekes, you determined upon over the space of about an hour during which the victim was detained."

Big cat loose near French capital

Police and fire officials are searching for a tiger on the loose in a town outside Paris, local authorities say.
A woman alerted officials after spotting the big cat in a supermarket car park in Montevrain, east of the French capital, local media reported.
The Montevrain council said on its Facebook page that an area of woodland had been roped off.
Residents have been advised to stay indoors, and children are being kept in schools.
It was unclear where the animal came from, though there is a big cat park near Montevrain.
The owner of the lntermarche supermarket in Montevrain said his wife had spotted the animal at about 08:30 (07:30 GMT).
"She didn't get out of the car and called me to say 'I think I saw a lynx'," he was quoted as saying. The woman took a photograph that appears to show a large cat.
Le Parisien newspaper said several local residents had sighted the animal.
Specialists said the animal's track's were those of a young tiger. An official from the mayor's office said they had been able to trace the animal to the woodland by following its prints, and that a helicopter was assisting police and fire officials in the search.
The Montevrain mayor's office dismissed the idea that the tiger could have escaped from a circus that was in the town until Saturday, Le Parisien reported.
EuroDisney, which operates nearby Disneyland Paris, said it kept no tigers.

Man vs Tiger

Five hundred Bengal tigers live in the largest mangrove forest on earth, situated on the border of India and Bangladesh. But so do more than a million humans. Every year the tigers attack up to 60 people, and only half survive to tell the tale.
Nothing strikes more fear into the hearts and minds of the people of the Sundarbans - the vast river delta on the northern shore of the Bay of Bengal - than the word "tiger". Even the mention of this word can send villagers into a blind panic.
Eager to catch a glimpse of a tiger, I asked a passing fisherman if he had seen one on his travels that morning. Up to that point he had been happy to pass time with me - but immediately he packed up his crabs and left without a word.
"If you talk about the tiger, it will come," said my boatman. "That is why."
There is hardly a person here whose life hasn't been touched by a tiger in some way.

Concerns for comet lander after uneven landing

After a historic but awkward comet landing, the robot probe Philae is now stable and sending pictures - but there are concerns about its battery life.
After two bounces, the first one about 1km back out into space, the lander settled in the shadow of a cliff, 1km from its target site.
It may be problematic to get enough sunlight to charge its batteries.
Launched in 2004, the European Space Agency (Esa) mission hopes to learn about the origins of our Solar System.
It has already sent back the first images ever taken on the surface of a comet.
Esa's Rosetta satellite carried Philae on a 10-year, 6.4 billion-km (4bn-mile) journey to Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, which reached its climax on Wednesday.
After showing an image that indicates Philae's location - on the far side of a large crater that was considered but rejected as a landing site - the head of the lander team Dr Stefan Ulamec said: "We could be somewhere in the rim of this crater, which could explain this bizarre… orientation that you have seen."
Figuring out the orientation and location is a difficult task, he said.
"I can't really give you much more than you interpret yourself from looking at these beautiful images."
But the team is continuing to receive "great data" from several different instruments on board Philae.
It may be possible to reconfigure Philae's landing gear and "hop" to a new location, but Dr Ulamec said there may not be enough time to do the analysis required for such a risky strategy.
"There is a limited amount of battery power there and the solar panels are not really illuminated, so we don't know precisely how long it's going to last," said Rosetta mission manager Dr Fred Jansen.

Apple and Google to introduce their default encryption

Google has announced that its next mobile operating system, Android L, will encrypt users' data by default.
The measure will make it more difficult for private information to be hacked or handed to law enforcement agencies.
On Thursday, Apple said that devices running its new iOS8 software would be encrypted by default, with even the company itself unable to gain access.
Both firms have offered encryption for some time, but many users were unaware of its existence or had not enabled it.
Earlier this week, Apple's boss Tim Cook posted an online message assuring users the company's philosophy was that a "great customer experience shouldn't come at the expense of your privacy".
Swipe As well as announcing default encryption for all devices running the new iOS8 software, Mr Cook took a thinly veiled swipe at Google, saying that Apple would not use its customers' information to sell things to them.
"We don't 'monetise' the information you store on your iPhone or in iCloud," he wrote, "and we don't read your email or your messages to get information to market to you."
He added that although Apple does have an advertising business, called iAd, the function can be disabled by users.
Shortly after, Google announced its stance on privacy, also embracing default encryption. A spokesman said: "For over three years, Android has offered encryption, and keys are not stored off of the device, so they cannot be shared with law enforcement.
"As part of our next Android release, encryption will be enabled by default out of the box, so you won't even have to think about turning it on."
Both Apple and Google follow in the footsteps of the now somewhat beleaguered Blackberry, which has encrypted data by default for some time.
The firms' focus on privacy comes after nude photos of celebrities were leaked online earlier this month.
The breach, which affected actress Jennifer Lawrence, among others, was linked by some security experts to vulnerabilities in Apple's iCloud storage service.
Law enforcement The introduction of default encryption also protects US firms from having to hand over data to law enforcement agencies.
As the companies themselves do not have access to users' passwords, which unlock the encryption, they are not actually in possession of the data concerned.
Several of the largest US tech firms have been fighting government requests for their users' private data, including Microsoft, Google, Twitter, Facebook and Dropbox.
David Emm, a senior researcher at security firm Kaspersky Lab, told the BBC that automatic encryption was "probably more about privacy than about protection".
"Customers will find some reassurance in the fact that their data can't routinely fall into third-party hands," he said.
However he added that the measure only "applies to stuff on a [Apple or Android] device, but not necessarily to stuff you put in the cloud, which could still be accessible to law enforcement agencies".

Happy video iranian dancers sentenced to 91 lashes and jail

Six Iranians arrested for appearing in a video dancing to Pharrell Williams' song Happy have been sentenced to up to one year in prison and 91 lashes, their lawyer says.
The sentences were suspended for three years, meaning they will not go to prison unless they reoffend, he adds.
The video shows three men and three unveiled women dancing on the streets and rooftops of Tehran.
In six months, it has been viewed by over one million people on YouTube.
The majority of people involved in the video were sentenced to six months in prison, with one member of the group given one year, lawyer Farshid Rofugaran was quoted by Iran Wire as saying.
The "Happy we are from Tehran" video was brought to the attention of the Iranian authorities in May, after receiving more than 150,000 views.
Members of the group behind the video were subsequently arrested by Iranian police for violating Islamic laws of the country, which prohibit dancing with members of the opposite sex and women from appearing without a headscarf.
They later appeared on state-run TV saying they were actors who had been tricked into make the Happy video for an audition.
The arrests drew condemnation from international rights groups and sparked a social media campaign calling for their release.
Williams, whose song was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year, also protested at the arrests.

More than 100 million shares were traded in the minutes after the stock was launched - more than Twitter.

The NYSE was festooned with the orange and white logos of the company to herald its arrival on public markets.
The company raised nearly $21.8bn in its share sale, indicating strong investor appetite for China's e-commerce giant.
